Eira Järvi
Lead of Legal Products and Global Intelligence
Eira Järvi is Lead of Legal Products and Global Intelligence at LegalBison, a global boutique legal and business services firm. She leads crypto and FinTech licensing projects and directs regulatory research on the point where EU payments and crypto-asset rules overlap.
Eira Järvi has been with LegalBison for more than three years. Based in Estonia, she works remotely across the firm’s global footprint.
From June 2021 to August 2023, she worked at an Estonia-based firm, first as Project Manager and from March 2022 as Head of Legal. She managed FinTech and VASP licensing projects end to end, including electronic money institutions authorised in Lithuania, payment institutions and investment dealers, and prepared full PSD2 and EMD submission packages.
From September 2021 to February 2022, she was MLRO and Data Protection Officer at a second company. There she ran AML/CTF compliance, built the risk assessment framework, analysed transactions with blockchain analytics tools, reported to the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit and acted as DPO under GDPR.
Eira holds an M.A. in Law (IT and Technology Law) from Tallinn University of Technology (2019 to 2021) and a B.A. in Law (EU Law) from Tallinn University (2015 to 2019), including an Erasmus exchange at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. She works in English, Estonian and Russian, with elementary Dutch and French, and is pursuing Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification.
EU payments and crypto-asset regulation. Eira’s subject is the overlap between EU payments law and crypto-asset regulation. Her deepest knowledge sits in MiCA and its regulatory technical standards, ESMA and EBA guidelines, PSD2 and the Electronic Money Directive, with working knowledge of AMLD and AMLR, DORA, NIS2, GDPR and MiFID II.
Perimeter advice. She advises on token classification, custody and transfer services, DeFi legal wrappers, RWA tokenisation, and SAFT and SAFE structures, applying it across EU, offshore, UAE, UK and US regimes within LegalBison’s 50+ jurisdiction scope.
Legal drafting and negotiation. Eira drafts legal memoranda and negotiates client, merchant, SaaS, outsourcing and data processing agreements.
Agentic legal operations. She designs and maintains agentic processes that orchestrate internal legal operations.
At LegalBison, Eira Järvi serves as Lead of Legal Products and Global Intelligence. Her role has three parts.
Licensing projects. She leads licensing and authorisation projects from start to finish, bringing in and coordinating external advisers where a project calls for them.
Legal products. As product owner for the firm’s legal products, she sets what each one includes and how it is delivered, from discovery through launch.
Global intelligence. She tracks regulatory change and feeds it into those products and the firm’s regulatory knowledge base.
Eira Järvi contributes to the public conversation on EU crypto and payments regulation through speaking, published commentary and her own writing.
Speaking. She took part in a CoinGecko API webinar, “Global Expansion Playbook for Exchanges: Where to Get Licensed Next & Hidden Bottlenecks,” held in partnership with LegalBison. The 75-minute fireside chat, held on 19 May 2026, covered where exchanges are looking to get licensed next and why licensing applications stall.
Published commentary. She has written articles for Bitcoin.com. One addresses the argument that DeFi projects fall outside MiCA and sets out why the EBA and ESMA take a different view. Another, a MiCA explainer, looks at why the regulator treats a firm’s compliance team as a single unit.
Own writing. On her personal website, she publishes articles on crypto and payments topics, including a recent piece on agentic card payments and what “authorisation” now means in that setting.
Eira Järvi’s client work covers the business models at the centre of the crypto and payments sectors. Her engagements at LegalBison include centralised exchanges, custodians, stablecoin and e-money token payment products, token launchpads, DeFi services and Web3 projects, RWA tokenisation projects, and electronic money and payment institutions.
Within these engagements, she has led licensing and authorisation applications, developed complete documentation sets and provided ongoing licensing and regulatory advice.
Her earlier project management work covered licensing projects for electronic money institutions authorised in Lithuania, payment institutions and investment dealers.
