Sabir Alijev’s career before co-founding LegalBison was built across investment advisory and cross-border corporate services, giving him a practitioner’s understanding of the full business lifecycle: from how financial products and investment structures work to building a firm that delivers these services globally. His career progression covers three stages:

• Investment advisory – in an investment specialist role, he gained exposure to financial product structuring, client advisory, and the commercial realities of regulated investment services;
• Cross-border corporate services – he progressed through operational and client-facing leadership positions in cross-border corporate services, developing a working understanding of how businesses are structured, incorporated, and operationally launched across jurisdictions;
• Co-Founder, LegalBison – member of the Management Board since May 2020. He built the firm’s operational infrastructure from inception: internal processes, service methodology, team structure, and multi-office coordination systems that now operate as a self-sustaining delivery platform.

Sabir Alijev’s expertise is at the intersection of jurisdictional comparison, regulatory research, and strategic advisory. He covers the firm’s full range of service verticals, with particular depth across three areas:

• Crypto and digital asset licensing – jurisdictional comparison and research methodology for VASP licensing and MiCA compliance frameworks. He engages directly with regulatory bodies to ensure jurisdictional assessments reflect current regulatory positions and enforcement patterns;
• FinTech licensing – practical understanding of EMI, PSP, and payment institution licensing under FinTech licensing frameworks, including the operational requirements of launching and running licensed payment businesses;
• International corporate structuring – company formation, jurisdiction selection, and the operational realities of setting up and running businesses across borders. His regional focus spans LATAM, Caribbean, and Asian markets within the firm’s 50+ jurisdiction scope.

As Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Sabir Alijev’s responsibilities cover four interconnected functions:

• Jurisdictional comparison and regulatory research – continuous assessment of regulatory environments and licensing frameworks across the firm’s jurisdictional scope, translated into the structured comparisons that advisory and implementation teams apply when guiding clients;
• Strategic advisory and market entry direction – direct advisory for high-profile client engagements, providing direction on how to enter new markets, which jurisdictional and licensing strategies to pursue, and how to structure operations for regulatory compliance and commercial viability;
• Operational architecture – the firm’s internal processes, service delivery workflows, and multi-office coordination systems are the product of his foundational build work;
• Market expansion and regional development – contributing to the firm’s strategy of establishing operational presence in the regions where clients seek to incorporate and operate, with particular focus on LATAM, Caribbean, and Asian markets.

LegalBison’s legal, compliance, licensing, and corporate administration teams handle the day-to-day work. Sabir Alijev’s role is to provide the strategic direction and regulatory intelligence for these operations.
