Rake

The term rake refers to the commission fee collected by a land-based gaming establishment as consideration for operating poker games or other peer-to-peer wagering activities where the house does not hold a direct stake in the outcome. Regulatory frameworks typically permit several methods for rake collection, including a percentage-based deduction from the pot, a fixed fee per hand (often triggered at the flop), or a time-based administrative charge assessed at predetermined intervals, such as every 30 to 60 minutes. In accordance with compliance standards, these fees; also colloquially identified in the industry as the margin, juice, or vigorish; must be clearly disclosed to participants to ensure transparency in the house’s revenue generation from non-banked gaming operations.
